I love watching a good TV show as much as anyone (maybe more).
I remember the first time I ever saw Full House on TGIF. Sitting cuddled up next to my mom and my brother on the couch, together, we watched and laughed and fell in love with the Tanner family. I remember my disappointment when the show got changed to Tuesday nights and then my relief when new great shows got put onto TGIF. The best part was, I could now watch TV on Tuesday and Friday nights. Win.
Here's the part where I give my excuse for my current massive list of obsessions.
My husband worked at night for two years. When he got the new position (technical support for countries in europe & asia) I was newly pregnant and alone a ton of the time. Every single evening to be exact. We didn't even have basic cable at the time so it was all Netflix and Hulu. I managed to fill the time with love for new shows.
During that time I watched 7 seasons of NCIS on DVD that my in-laws lent to us. I watched all of Friday Night Light's that I could get my hands on (the first 3 seasons at that point, I believe). And then there was Pretty Little Liars. It premiered that summer and I watched the first 12 episodes probably 3-4 times each. At first I hated it, I couldn't believe I let myself fall into it like I did. Now 2.5 years later I just can't believe I still don't know who killed Alison. Then that fall Parenthood premiered and of course, I fell head over hills.
During my pregnancy I also re-watched old favorites with the burning knowledge that I would never again get to camp out in front of the TV and be completely unproductive for hours at a time. This gave me some anxiety, I won't lie. I spent time with old friends from The OC, Gilmore Girls, Beverly Hills 90210, One Tree Hill, Everwood and more. They kept me company, I may have been alone but it was never quiet.
Then that October when D made his way via emergency c-section into my life things didn't really change that much. I had a lot of recovery time and when my mom came to stay with me for two weeks, we re-watched Friday Night Lights together. She was converted, we quietly (and jokingly) planned Declan's future in football while we gazed over his little face and cooed that he had to be quarterback because he could never ever hurt anybody.
As he grew and was looking around more and more I made the conscious effort to turn the TV off. I had been told and read all the studies that kiddos shouldn't watch TV until they are 2. Now I am not going to get all high and mighty and brag that we made this happen. We didn't. I think when he was around 18-19 months I sort of gave into the kiddie shows.
Now Mickey Mouse (Mee-Mow) graces my television screen every single morning (this is due to our trip to Disney World in December) and I am pulled from my emails every morning to do the Hot Dog Dance and I secretly love it (even though that song gets a bit much after the 43rd time). We don't keep the TV on all day but it is a part of our lives.
My TV watching is now limited to the occasional nap time lounge fest and to the evenings after D is asleep. I have shows I watch Sunday-Thursday. Some nights there are 3-4 I want to watch and I just can't do it all, and that's okay.
So what do I watch now? The Good Wife, The Following, Bun Heads, The Carrie Diaries, Hart of Dixie, Pretty Little Liars, Parenthood, Nashville, The Vampire Diaries, and honestly the list goes on and on. I am so thankful to my DVR.
However, I know that if there is one TV moment I'll remember from the last 2 years it's this.
Declan was about 14 months old, he woke up teething in the middle of the night and he just would not settle back down. I trudged out to the living room about 1-2 AM and went to my DVR menu. Smirking at my well thought out planning, I put on some random Full House episode I had saved for a desperate occasion. I snuggled up with him and found myself watching it all over again, this time from a parental perspective. And you know what? I still love it just as much as I did the first time I snuggled up to watch it.

Say Hello, Will Ya?

1. What blogs do you visit daily? Please list 1-3 of your favorites.
3 of my favorites are:
3 of my favorites are:
Martini's or Diaper Genies - Amanda never fails to make me laugh out loud.
Wish You Were Here - I have been a fan of Bethany Joy Lenz for a solid decade. When I discovered her blog I was in blog reader heaven. I think she's amazing.
Mommy Shorts - Another blog that makes me roll with laughter. Check out her post: Is your toddler better or worse than your college roommate?
2. Are you on Instagram? If so, what is your user name?
Yep, @Raezilla
3. Can we find you on Pinterest? What's your Pinterest address, and what can we expect to see you pinning most? (recipes, DIY projects, home decor, etc.)
Yep, Raezilla again. I am still a pinterest newb after all these years. I tend to go find what I need, pin a few things, then not return for a month.
4. What are your favorite blog link-ups to participate in? (weekly link-ups other bloggers have...any number will do...please link us to them!)
I am brand new to link ups, I did Shannon's "So What' Wednesday" once which I really liked but I didn't quite get the whole package going. I linked to her but didn't have the button, I need to work on some blog skills. If anyone wants to link up a tutorial on "all things blogger" that would be a huge help.
5. Why do you blog?
I have been reading blogs for years. I have made a few, gathered a few followers and then deleted, over and over again. I made this blog here because I don't want to watch life pass me by without documenting any of it. I take hundreds of pictures and love to edit them, this is a place for me to share those pictures without over loading facebook. A place I can make all mine, however I want it to be. I am brand new to this, but I am in for the long haul.

6. Tell us one random fact about yourself.
I got terribly ill with Lyme Disease in my last year of college and I never finished school. I have less than a year's worth of credits left to complete my degree but would have to relocate back to Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania to finish at Messiah College. Any other school I finish at, I'll need a minimum of 60 credits. At 30 years old I'm not feeling very good about any of this and I'm anxious to figure something out and complete my degree.

Really 2.
There are so many things I "just have to remember forever" that I didn't write down or record on a blog and I already regret it. Two years in, there is so much I've missed. I have some catching up to do.
Today I want to record some of the things Declan is doing now that he is really two.
-----------------------------
Some of the funny ways he says some words:
-Buppy or Boppy is Ball. He's been calling it this all along but I think it's a term of endearment because he definitely can say "ball". It just sounds so silly and cute when he says it, I know I'll be sad when he stops.
-Mee-mow is Mickey Mouse. It's what he calls it when he wants to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse which has been a constant request since we returned from Disney World. Definitely his favorite show of the moment.
-Mom-may is what he calls me when he's being a silly willy and really wants to get my attention. He yells it "MOM-MAYYYY" Which I pretty much always respond to with "Yes, Declan-ay?" Which makes him laugh and I love it.
-When he wants to go outside it's "Oww siii" But to come inside it's just "siii" This probably just means I need to work with him more on his pronunciation of these words. Is it weird to admit I sort of hate correcting him? If I understand him, does it really matter right now? (probably...)
Other little things he does right now that I don't want to forget:
-When we go outside to play "buppy" he usually means he want's to play golf. I bought a small bag of plastic golf balls from Target and I should have bought two. We lose them in the bushes every single day. What I love about this is that I line the balls up and he gets his club and one by one, gets in his stance and whacks the ball as hard as he can. It's adorable. My Dad is an amazing golfer (so I'm told, I haven't exactly been on the course with him in years) so I know he'll be glad to see D go to town when my parents visit next week.
-He loves puzzles. He has loved puzzles since he was about a year old. The chunky wooden ones with 4-5 pieces were his favorite. By 18 months he could do more complicated wooden puzzles and now at 27 months old he can easily complete his 24 piece puzzles by himself. He has completed one 35 piece puzzle by himself but usually I divide up the edges and give them to him in sections so he doesn't get overwhelmed. We also have a 60 piece puzzle we love to work on together, first we do the edges, then I give him other parts of it in sections and he just loves putting it all together. He has to be in the mood but when he is, he has an amazing attention span.
-He's obsessed with musical instruments, especially the drums. Right now he is just drumming on everything, including his drum. He loves music (as all toddlers's do) and dancing, but right now smacking along with the beat (sorta) on the kitchen chairs is one of his favorite things. It's fun to see him trying to pick out the beats and really grove along with the songs. However, I imagine his little hands get sore.
-He's crazy about painting. I think I messed up by never getting him finger paints because he does not like to get paint on his hands. He's finally over needing his hand washed immediately and will spend some time carefully smearing the paint from his fingers onto his painting. He loves the regular gloppy crayola paint, and smearing it around with a paint brush or two. I prefer water colors (less to clean up), he has his own set, the colors are all mixed together (and have been for months and months) but it still makes great paintings and he loves it.
The not as great things that come with being 2:
-The two year old molars have been the most painful and it feels like they have been coming in for forever. For a few weeks he woke up multiple times a night every night, it was hard for us as we have become accustomed to sleeping through the night most of the time.
-The tantrums. It's begun. They are ugly. They come with out warning. He has had a few massive fits over little things like "no more marshmallows" "no more mee-mow" "we're not painting right now" etc. Full on throwing himself on the floor and screaming and fake crying like there is no tomorrow. I know it's fake because after a few of these fun episodes I took my mother's advice and got down on the floor next to him and hollered and fake cried. He stood up, looked at me like I had 3 heads and moved on with his day. It may be an unconventional way to deal, but it felt really good and they've been few and far between since.
So he's really 2 now and while there are so tough parts, it's so much fun. He's learning at lightening speed, his speech is improving on a daily basis at this point and we just love hearing what he thinks and what he has to say. I'm sure in 3 months when he's 2.5 he'll have changed a lot and I hope I remember to write another post then.

The first day of School? And almost overwhelming kindergarten options.
Declan has his first day of preschool today. Sort of. I won't be doing any fancy pictures to memorialize it or anything because it's not really school. It's not even really preschool. It's a mommy & me class at the preschool. And this mommy is pumped up about it.
In December we visited the class we are joining and it is a fabulous program. The building houses 3 age groups. 18m-30m (mommy & me) 1 day a week, 3 year old - 2 days a week. 4 year old - 3 days a week.
This is ideal for us for a number of reasons:
1. It's a co-op which means it costs way less than most preschools because the parents help out. (I did Kidville mommy & me for awhile in San Diego County, that was insanely expensive compared to this.)
2. It's about 4 minutes from where we live.
3. I am not ready to drop my little guy off anywhere when I know he is not ready or capable of communicating his needs with other adults.
4. I get to go! I get to meet other mamas and watch D interact with other children and hopefully we'll both make some friends.
Now the only thing that I find a little... odd? Is that because it is a co-op when you join you agree to attend a few meetings a year. Four I believe. Evening meetings, at the school, just for parents. I wasn't exactly pumped up to go to my first meeting last night. D was sick last week so we haven't even attended one of our classes yet.
So there I was last night, alone, the new kid (with out my kid!) I saw a woman I recognized and asked if I could sit next to her. I reminded her that I'd visited the class and she remembered because our boys had played together. She said the meetings go long. I was not exactly thrilled.
Then they began, and after all the formal meeting stuff was taken care of there were Kindergarten teachers lined up to talk to us. Like 10 of them. Whaaaat? I could see why this was important for the 4 year old class but why did I have to be there? Then holy moly, once they started talking about their schools, I found myself hanging on their every word.
This county we've moved to? It has some of the best schools in California. I had no idea when we relocated that these were schools with more than good test scores. There are so many different programs to choose from, to visit, to learn about, and the bummer is you have to enter the lotteries to get into them.
This is a small community we live in, but the education options really are overwhelming. 3 (almost 4 - one is being evaluated) Charter schools to choose from. An amazing homeschooling program where kids can go to school from 0-4 days a week and join any of the programs they wish. There is a Spanish immersion program (amazing!). There is an charter school that focuses on the arts. There is a charter school based on the explorer program which I believe is sort of Montessori, but I'm new to this. I really don't know much at all.
I need to do the visits, spend the time researching and really determine what would be the best fit for Declan. I was so glad to be there for that meeting. To hear about these schools. To be reinforced again that moving up here was the best thing for our son, for our family. I am excited about these options, I am thrilled that we have options and that they all sound like wonderful places for children. Interestingly enough with all the options I felt that the local public school "Bridge to Kindergarten" teacher was the most exciting of the bunch. She loves her job, and you can tell she adores the kids and feels her job is a privilege. That is so special to see.
There is nothing more precious to the education system then a teacher who really cares. I have so much respect for teachers and what once was scary is now exciting. I am glad I found this preschool and I am so excited for Declan's educational future.
Exciting times ahead!

So What? It's Wednesday.
Linking up with Shannon @ Life After I Dew for So What Wednesday!
- So what if I am doing a link up for the first time and I'm nervous I'll mess it up some how.
- So what if I do mess it up? Someone will help me fix it, right?
- So what if I haven't showered in 2 days and I'm feeling completely gross. Nowhere to go today.
- So what if we need groceries but have no way to get to the store? We have bread and soup. We're good.
-So what if none of us have slept through the night in 2 weeks. We will again one day, right?
-So what if last night's dishes are still in the sink. They'll get done, it's only 9 AM.
-So what if I am not pregnant and not planning to be for awhile but I still want to take advantage of this amazing deal?
-So what if I can't stop thinking about Nashville being on tonight? Wednesday is Nashville day.
-So what if my kid is on his 3rd TV episode at only 9AM.
So what! And so what if I actually typed out "so what" that many times. Tomorrow will be better. Next week will be better.

Booster Seat Battle
We've had the biggest problem finding a booster seat for Declan to join us at the kitchen table. I've purchased two seats from Target, both have been returned (well one is in a bag, by the door, waiting to be returned). They just didn't work for us.
The first seat slid right off the chair, how is that safe? The second seat... I can't even explain or comprehend WHY they sell it. It was 12 bucks so I grabbed it with out really investigating (always a mistake). This one - it's impossible to use. I have to hold him in the most awkward angle to get his leg through the loop and then the same thing to get him out. Forget every trying it with his shoes on, there is no way it would work. It's completely useless! They could have easily made the attachment belt differently to make it a great seat, but no... you can't undo one of the leg holes. You have to lift your child out to untangle them, what a waste.
I'm on amazon... trying to decide. I am thinking this seat looks pretty ideal. Any opinions, other options, anything... would be very appreciated. He's almost 27 months old and still chilling in his highchair. Definitely was not my plan!

Goodbye to anxiety and goodbye 2012
I always think about the title of the page before I can come up with an idea for a post or just anything. I feel like if it doesn't fit in the "We're Ready for Roots" category then it doesn't belong here. Hogwash. I need to get over it. Life is fun and short and it's going by quickly. I created this page to document and encourage documenting yet I am always talking myself out of it.
Down, off that ledge of self expression.
I can't live like that anymore! I may be 30 but I have a lot of living left to do and part of that life will be documented on the internet.
So what if my extended family finds this page? So what if an ex (love or friend) trolls over my words and my pictures and makes a joke out of it. Oh well! I'm over it.
---
I haven't edited any pictures (in weeks). I haven't plugged my card into my computer, I haven't even thought about it. However, I have been taking pictures. One of these days I'll get it together. I've been to Disney World and lived through the holidays, I'm sure there is something worth sharing, documenting, remembering.
2012 was the year of big changes. 2013 will be the year of small changes that make a big impact. So Happy New Year. Here's to 2013 being the year I truly stop worrying about every damn thing. I want to breathe through this year, live it, and eat it up.
- 2013 will be the year of the plant. The vegetable, the fruit, the nut, the legume. The year of wellness via food. I will not forget to love my body this year.
-2013 will be the year of creativity. I will put pen to paper, fingers to keyboard, brush to canvas and I will let my soul sing whatever it needs to sing.
-2013 will be my year. I will go back to school, I will make a decision, I will follow through. I will accomplish my goals.
What will you do in 2013?
